ABOUT THIS COURSE

Data has the ability to influence decisions when it is presented as an easy-to-understand narrative. This requires the extraction of key pieces of relevant information, and the translation of them in a way that is clear and compelling to an audience.

On the Data Visualisation and Storytelling Using Tableau online short course from the National University of Singapore (NUS) Advanced Computing for Executives (ACE), you’ll learn to use data to communicate business insights. Over six weeks, you’ll explore the functionalities and capabilities of Tableau through practical, step-by-step exercises involving data visualisation. You’ll also equip yourself with the tools and skills to collate data, extract important insights and use them to create engaging stories that inform and influence. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to convey meaningful data insights using data-driven visualisations.

WHAT THIS COURSE COVERS

Over six weeks, you’ll discover the advantages of visual storytelling in business and how to use visual data that communicates clear, accurate and ethical insights. You will evaluate the suitability of various visualisation types based on data characteristics, and assess the clarity and integrity of visualisations based on best practices. You’ll also learn how to create dashboards to communicate meaningful business insights to a business audience. Finally, you’ll discover a framework to convert your visualisations into a story designed to inform decisions. By the end of the course, you’ll have the data knowledge and storytelling skills to use Tableau to collate and create visual representations of your business narrative.

ABOUT THE CERTIFICATE

Earn a digital certificate of professional achievement from the National University of Singapore (NUS) Advanced Computing for Executives (ACE) as recognition of your newly developed skills.

Assessment is continuous and based on a series of practical assignments completed online. In order to be issued with your digital certificate, you’ll need to meet the requirements outlined in the course handbook. The handbook will be made available to you as soon as you begin the course.

Your digital certificate will be issued in your legal name and sent to you upon successful completion of the course, as per the stipulated requirements.

Senior Lecturer, Department of Information Systems and Analytics, National University of Singapore (NUS)

Samantha has over eight years of experience in business analytics and data science. She has a passion for engaging and inspiring others to enhance their workplace analytics capabilities and increase the business intelligence quotient within their organisations. Her interest lies in the application of data analytics, predictive modelling and optimisation techniques for deriving actionable insights for commercial purposes.

Along with holding several certifications from Microsoft, SAS and Tableau, she completed her Master of Education from the University of Sheffield and graduated from NUS with a Bachelor’s in Engineering with first-class honours.
